How Popcorn captures SMS consent
This page documents Popcorn's two-step SMS consent flow for A2P 10DLC verification. Popcorn is a B2B SaaS platform; message recipients are contacts added to a Popcorn workspace by a customer business team member based on an existing business relationship.
Step 1: Business attestation in the Popcorn app
Consent capture begins inside the Popcorn app. A customer's team member opens the workspace contacts list and clicks “Add contact.” They enter the contact's name and phone number. Before they can submit the form, they must check a required box affirming consent:
“I represent and warrant that I have obtained prior express consent from this contact to receive SMS notifications about business operational events. This contact has an existing business relationship with our company and a reasonable expectation of receiving such communications.”
New contact
Add someone to the workspace contacts pool. Popcorn uses it to match inbound SMS and reach out if directed by you.
Step 2: Per-contact SMS double opt-in
Immediately after a contact is added, Popcorn sends a verification SMS. The contact must reply YES before Popcorn will send any further messages.
Until the contact replies YES, Popcorn sends no operational messages (reminders, check-ins, or weekly summaries) to that number.
Opt-out
Popcorn honors the keywords STOP, END, QUIT, UNSUBSCRIBE, and CANCEL automatically at the carrier level, with the standard auto-reply confirmation. Once a contact opts out, Popcorn sends no further messages to that number through the workspace.
